About Us

About the Band

Formed in the fall of 2007, and originally dubbed the Boys & Girls Club Jazz Band, this high intensity performance group has evolved into the Heatwave Jazz & Show Band, and helped create other programs to round out what is now The Music Program of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley.

The group started as a part of a program by the NAMM Foundation to further enhance music at the Boys & Girls Clubs.  In the early years, we were based in the La Quinta Club, but now have a home of our own, in the Pete & Edna Carlson Music Club in Palm Desert.

In addition to an annual budget from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Coachella Valley, the program has some really great corporate sponsors:

The program also relies on private donations and proceeds received from Heatwave performances.  All this allows members to participate at no cost.

The band's repertoire includes everything from Glen Miller to Adele.  We play arrangements from the libraries of Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Glen Miller, Tonight Show Band, Ray Charles, Kenny G, Duffy, Booker T and the MG's, Tower of Power, Ella Fitzgerald, Adele, Doobie Brothers, Earth Wind & Fire, Hall & Oates, Natalie Cole, Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake and many, many more!
